UPDATE: Water main repairs can cause cloudy water but have no impact on water safety

Due to ongoing repairs to the 24-inch water transmission main running from the City of Hot Springs’ Lake Ouachita Water Treatment Plant to the Music Mountain Water Tank, Hot Springs Municipal Utilities customers experiencing cloudy water may benefit from the following tips:

  • Run cold (not hot) water at the sink or tub faucet until it runs clear.
  • Refrain from washing white or light-colored clothes until the water runs clear.
  • Discard discolored ice cubes and make new ones after the water runs clear.

The discolored or cloudy water has no impact on water safety, and the water is safe for consumption. The cloudiness will dissipate as the system naturally flushes. For most customers, this condition should clear within the next 24 hours.

Utilities crews began replacing two sections of the 24-inch main last night and completed repairs on one of the sections today. Repairs to the other section are still ongoing, with crews working straight through until they are completed. The public’s patience is appreciated during the project which will eliminate two major leaks to the water system and improve service delivery to all Municipal Utilities customers.
